The General Insurance Council of Saskatchewan’s market practices committee has entered into a consensual agreement and undertaking with Choiceland Insurance designated representative, Susan Temple after Temple agreed she was guilty of misconduct when she allowed an individual to represent the firm as an insurance agent without holding a license.

“By allowing an individual to represent Choiceland as an insurance agent and allowing that individual to solicit individuals and organizations to place contracts of insurance, Temple, as designated representative, breached section 5-3(3) of the act which states that no business that holds an insurance agent’s license, other than a restricted insurance agent’s license, shall employ or appoint an individual to act as an insurance agent unless the individual holds a valid insurance agent’s license.”

Temple is also being sanctioned for allowing Choiceland to operate under a business name that was not registered with the province’s Information Services Corporation (ISC) between July 2012 and October 2021. Bylaws in Saskatchewan require that insurance agencies must maintain a registration with the ISC for as long as they hold an active license.

In addition to a penalty of $2,500, Temple agreed to pay the costs of the investigation totalling $550.
