The Insurance Council of British Columbia has issued a decision and order suspending Gagandeep Singh Dhillon’s level 1 salesperson license without a hearing until a council staff investigation is complete and it has determined that Dhillon is suitable to hold a license.
The council in its order says the length of time it would take to address the matter through and intended decision would be detrimental to the due administration of the Financial Institutions Act.
According to the order, charges were laid against Dhillon in the Provincial Court of British Columbia April 1, 2020. Charges against him include 10 counts of identity theft, 10 counts of unauthorized use of credit card data, eight counts of fraud over $5,000, one count of careless use or storage of a firearm, and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.
“Based on the nature of the charges against the licensee, council believes the licensee represents a risk to the public such that his license should remain suspended under sections 231 and 238 of the Act while the investigation is underway and until council determines the licensee’s suitability and issues further orders.” The order says council staff are currently conducting an investigation. All insurance agencies that Dhillon was most recently affiliated with have withdrawn his authority to represent them.
