The General Council of Manitoba has fined and assessed costs against Barzin Assadi, after he failed to disclose an earlier regulatory decision against him on licensing renewal applications.
Licensed in Manitoba since August 2019, Assadi completed his May 2020 and May 2021 licensing renewal applications indicating that he’d not been under investigation since last applying for a license or renewal.
Assadi was sanctioned by the Insurance Council of British Columbia for improperly handling client information when he used a personal USB drive to backup his work computer and manage client files.

During the course of the investigation, Asssadi stated through his legal counsel that he’d misread the question, and failed then to re-read the question in the three additional renewal attestations that were signed after the first.
“The ICM (Insurance Council of Manitoba) requires the licensee to answer certain questions for every application or renewal of a license. Among them is whether the licensee has been under investigation or the subject of a disciplinary action by any regulatory or licensing authority. This is a very important disclosure obligation,” the Manitoba intended decision states.
In addition to a $500 fine, Assadi was assessed council’s costs in the amount of $2,000.
