Sun Life Financial announced on June 1 that, through its U.S. business, it has completed the previously announced acquisition of DentaQuest.
Headquartered in Boston and founded in 2001, DentaQuest has more than 33 million members in 36 states and more than 2,400 employees. It is the second-largest dental benefits provider in the U.S. by membership.
It is also the largest provider of U.S. Medicaid dental benefits. “DentaQuest positions Sun Life as a leader in providing dental benefits for U.S. government programs,” says the insurer.
Sun Life acquired DentaQuest from CareQuest Institute for Oral Health, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization, and minority shareholder Centerbridge Partners, L.P., a private investment management firm.
DentaQuest is now part of the Sun Life U.S. business, which offers dental benefits through employers for their employee benefits plans. The completion of the acquisition is expected to bring Sun Life U.S.'s total annual benefits revenues to more than US$7 billion, says the insurer.
