Our commitment

The Insurance Journal Publishing Group's mission is to provide insurance professionals and decisionmakers with accurate, relevant and comprehensive information. Artificial intelligence (AI) tools allow us to broaden our coverage and enhance our services — without ever compromising the quality and reliability our readers expect.

This policy sets out the principles that govern our use of AI, regardless of the tools or systems we use today or develop in the future. It applies to all content we create and complements our existing journalistic standards.

Our principles

Our use of AI rests on a consistent set of principles, regardless of the technology involved:

• Human judgement remains central. Decisions to produce, process and publish content always rest with people. AI supports our work — it does not replace it.
• The editorial team is accountable for what we publish. We stand behind every piece of content we publish, exactly as we do for all our journalism, whether or not AI contributed to its production.
• We are transparent with our readers. We clearly indicate when AI has made a substantial contribution to a piece of content, so readers always know what they are reading and how it was created.
• We favour solutions we control. When appropriate, we design or closely govern our own tools rather than relying on off-the-shelf applications, so that we retain full control over quality and the handling of information.
• Quality over quantity. AI helps us do more — never at the expense of accuracy, relevance or rigour.

Human oversight and accountability

No AI-assisted content is published without being reviewed and edited by a member of our editorial team, including fact-checking and verification against our standards. The decision to publish always rests with a person.

Our journalism does not rely on AI. Our investigations, reporting, interviews and analysis are conceived, conducted and written by our journalists and researchers. AI is never treated as a source, has no access to our confidential sources, and plays no role in handling information shared with us in confidence.

We do not use AI to fabricate bylines, testimonials or sources. Every byline on an article belongs to a person who takes full editorial responsibility for it.

Transparency

We clearly indicate to our readers when AI has contributed to the writing of a journalistic article.

Our guiding frameworks

Our approach is guided by two foundational texts:

• The Quebec Press Council Guide of Journalism Ethics, which we endorse in its entirety;
• The Paris Charter on AI and Journalism, the first international ethical framework on the subject, published by Reporters Without Borders.

Policy updates
