Insurance and office supplies are being banded together through a new partnership between Allstate Protection Plans, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Allstate Corporation, and privately owned Staples Canada.

The partnership will see Allstate offering “Staples Protection Plans by Allstate” to customers buying smartphones, computers, tablets and headphones, but also office furniture including desks, chairs and filing cabinets. The insurance covers all mechanical and electrical failures. For portable electronics and furniture, the plans also cover accidental damage.

“For over a decade, Allstate Protection Plans has transformed the extended warranty industry with service innovation and an obsessive focus on customer experience,” the company said in a statement about the agreement. Other protection plans are already being offered around the world by the company, in North America, Europe, Japan and Australia. Staples says Allstate’s service mirrors its own in terms of the service customers have come to expect from the retailer. The plans will be offered at all Staples Canada locations and online.
