Almost 20 per cent of Desjardins’ caisse members have signed up for the Equifax credit monitoring plan following the massive privacy breach affecting 2.9 million members earlier this summer.

The 19.65 per cent of members who have signed up represent 530,627 caisse members.

In a statement July 26 Desjardins repeated that caisse members are automatically protected against identity theft through the new Desjardins solution it recently announced. Desjardins has also provided additional ways for members to sign up for the Equifax plan: in person at a caisse, over the phone, online, or on their mobile device.

Three parts to Desjardins plan

The Desjardins solution has three components. The first is protection for members’ accounts and assets at Desjardins against unauthorized transactions. As well, if a member's identity is stolen, Desjardins will provide individual support through every step of the identity recovery process. The last component is that members may be reimbursed up to $50,000 for expenses they incur while recovering their identity, such as notary or lawyer fees and other expenses outlined in the protection details

Desjardins repeated to its members that there has been no recent spike in fraud, and that if any unauthorized transactions are made in members” Desjardins accounts, they will be reimbursed.
