The Insurance Journal Publishing Group, its staff and contributors are saddened to learn about the death of our contributor and colleague, Susan Yellin. The following is a tribute by her longtime friend, Rosemary McCracken.

Susan Yellin, a regular contributor to the Insurance Journal for more than 10 years, passed away suddenly in her Toronto home on Jan. 12.

Born and raised in Hamilton, Ont., Susan earned a bachelor of journalism at the University of Western Ontario. Her long journalism career included full-time reporting and editing positions at The Canadian Press, the Financial Post and Investment Executive.

A second career in public relations included senior posts at AGF Investments Inc., where she was director of public relations, the Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) where she was director of communications and at Assante Advisory Services where she served as senior communications manager.

In more recent years, Susan worked as a freelance writer and communications advisor. She also volunteered with the Canadian Association of Women Executives and Entrepreneurs, where she was director of marketing and public relations. She is also remembered as being devoted to her family, and leaves behind close friends who miss her dearly.

Serge Therrien, the Insurance Portal’s publisher, says “it is with great sadness that I received the news of Susan Yellin's passing. Susan was a valued contributor to the company. I had the opportunity to meet her often at events in Toronto. I see her in my mind in many discussions we had together about industry issues. I salute her professionalism and her kindness.”

Therrien and the group extend their condolences to Susan’s husband, Howard Iseman, and her family.
