British insurance marketplace Lloyd’s has appointed Marc Lipman president of Lloyd’s Canada. In his new role, he will report to Hank Watkins, Regional Director & President of Lloyd’s, Americas. At the same time, Lipman was named attorney-in-fact (AIF) for Lloyd’s Underwriters.

Lisa Duval had been acting as AIF on an interim basis since late 2019. She replaced Sean Murphy, who had served in both roles from September 2012 to October 2019 Lloyd’s told The Insurance Portal.

Industry veteran

“Marc brings to Lloyd’s a wealth of industry experience and a deep understanding of the Canadian (re)insurance sector,” Lloyd’s said when it announced the appointment on June 1.

“In addition to representing Lloyd’s before provincial and regulatory bodies, Marc will work closely with Lloyd’s distribution partners in Canada and London to facilitate the development of innovative risk transfer solutions by Lloyd’s underwriters in our third largest market globally,” the insurer continues.

Former AIG Canada executive

Before joining the British insurer and reinsurer, Lipman had been working at AIG Insurance Company of Canada since 2005. He notably served as Chief Operating Officer from 2010 to 2020.

He also acted as Senior Legal Counsel, International, at Scotiabank for nearly 9 years, between 1996 and 2005, his LinkedIn profile states.
