A recently released Ipsos’ new global report entitled, We Need to Talk About Generations, digs into some myths about the new workforce, Gen Zers, those born after 1995.

For perspective about what these employees and clients need and how they think, the report delves into the generation’s influences, including the fact that Gen Z has grown up under the influence of several crises, from climate change and inflation, to pandemic and war, all of these affecting their perception of themselves and the world around them.

For planners interested in catering to this generation, the report says Generation Z is concerned about being able to handle difficult situations on their own.

“Almost half, 44 per cent on average across 32 countries, say they are facing or had recently faced a difficult personal situation that they couldn’t resolve by themselves versus just 25 per cent of Boomers who say the same,” the report notes.

The report also states that Gen Zers are often mistaken as the greenest generation ever. The truth is that about 26 per cent of them surveyed across 29 countries think there’s no point changing their behaviour to save the environment.

Instead, “What young people are more worried about are those very immediate issues like low incomes and housing,” says the report.
