For four months in 2022, Diane Vivian St Marie worked on behalf of the Westland Insurance Group Ltd., also known as Westland MyGroup, without a valid license to sell insurance or act as an agent in the province. For the transgression, both the firm and St Marie are being fined and assessed costs after admitting to the misconduct.

According to the consensual agreement and undertaking signed between the General Insurance Council of Saskatchewan and Westland and another agreement signed between the council and St Marie separately, both the firm and the agent agree to being guilty of misconduct when St Marie acted as an insurance agent in the province between June 8, 2022 and October 11, 2022 when she did not hold a license through council.

For violating sections of the province’s Insurance Act, the regulator fined Westland and St Marie $500 each and assessed investigation costs totalling $440 in each case separately, as well.

“No business that holds an insurance agent’s license, other than restricted insurance agent’s license, shall employ or appoint an individual to act as an insurance agent unless the individual holds a valid insurance agent’s license,” the consensual agreement and undertaking states.
