Assumption Life has appointed Tony McLaughlin as vice president, chief information and technology officer.
McLaughlin replaces Stéphane Godbout, Assumption Life spokesperson Thomas Raffy told Insurance Portal. Godbout has left the insurer for an industry outside of insurance, Raffy added. Godbout was vice-president, technology and digital operations. The role was renamed vice-president, chief information officer and chief technology officer when McLaughlin arrived, Raffy said.
McLaughlin is not new to the Moncton, New Brunswick-based mutual. "This is a homecoming for him, as he launched his career with us," said Sébastien Dupuis, president and CEO of Assumption Life.
At Assumption Life, McLaughlin worked from 1999 to 2009 as a technical manager and senior software developer, then as a senior database architect. He briefly worked for Atlantic Lottery in Moncton before moving to Medavie Blue Cross as a system integration specialist. Since 2016, he had been working his way up at BMM Testlabs where he was most recently vice president of quality assurance services for North America and India.
Remaining a tech leader
“He shares our values of collaboration, trust, commitment, and leadership. His collaborative leadership style and genuine concern for others will help make a difference for our clients, our partners, and our communities," said Dupuis.
Tony McLaughlin expressed his desire to be surrounded again by people who are motivated not only by their professional impact, but also by their social and community impact. "I look forward to putting my expertise to work with my new team to ensure that Assumption Life remains a technological leader in the insurance industry," he added.
One of the first insurers to allow advisors to sell insurance products entirely digitally, Assumption Life continues to develop new platforms. As he announced increasing results for 2021, Dupuis emphasized the agility and innovation demonstrated by his team. Assumption Life reported that it had hired Marie-Claude Thibodeau as vice president, actuarial and product development, at the beginning of the year to accelerate product development.
