Jennifer Black became a financial advisor for the simple reason of wanting to help people. With her mother/mentor/business partner Janet Baccarani, Mississauga, Ontario-based DFS Private Wealth has met its goals and been showered with nine different awards aimed at engaging and helping clients.

Included are five consecutive Top Financial Planner awards in her city as well as a Wealth Professional Award for being multi-service advisor of the year.

“They’re not awards for revenue, they’re not awards for having the biggest practice,” said Black. “The awards are all around our clients and what we do for them and how we engage them in their planning and helping them to achieve their goals.” The multi-service advisor of the year best describes the kinds of work she does, said Black, running the gamut from insurance and investing to financial planning, including cash flow, helping clients decide how to downsize and what to do with their CPP benefits.

Black takes an integrated approach when dealing with her clients. But she doesn’t offer one-size-fits-all solutions, preferring a unique customer-centric methodology that includes insurance as an important part of each financial plan.

Not only is she deeply devoted to providing top-notch client service, but she also gives back to the community.

A number of years ago, she created Widowed.ca as a community service.  The non-profit advisor network and its website have grown to become the largest free online resource for widows and widowers in Canada, and is also a helpful aid to couples planning for their financial future. It’s Black’s way of giving back and helping Canadians in a time of need.
