Sid Copoloff, one of the founders of Canada's network of independent life insurance advisors, passed away on May 16 in Montreal.

Mr. Copoloff created Copoloff Insurance Agencies in 1964 and became one of the first managing general agents in Canada. He and other MGA visionaries believed in the need for advisors to have business relationships with independent and specialized insurers in market segments that large financial groups were not serving at the time.

With their distribution support, new insurers entered the Canadian market and opened branches. As a result, insurance products that met specific needs, such as term products among others, experienced an increase in sales.

In 2014, Insurance Journal interviewed Mr. Copoloff about his firm’s 50 years in business. To learn more, read the article here.
