New research from business consulting firm Robert Half Canada looks at five remote working trends for 2023, identified by analyzing survey responses for more than 1,100 workers and 1,449 managers in October and November 2022.
Among the trends examined, they say remote jobs are here to stay, adding that professionals remain confident in the job market and have the flexibility to choose when and where to work. More, the surveys find that 85 per cent of workers are interested in hybrid or fully remote positions. An analysis of job postings in January 2023 conducted by the firm found that 22.9 per cent of all new postings were advertised as remote, up from 20.6 in January 2022.
Of those surveyed, 73 per cent who are able to work when and where they are most productive report putting in more hours now than three years ago. “Despite longer workdays, 43 per cent report higher job satisfaction,” they write.
Nearly one quarter said they were willing to take a pay cut for the ability to work remotely all the time. At the same time, the research says being in the office still has its benefits – 65 per cent said they have more effective relationships with colleagues whom they’ve met face-to-face.
Finally, for those concerned about advancement, the survey of managers says the best ways for off-site employees to position themselves for growth is to have regular career path conversations, express an interest in professional development and volunteer to lead or contribute to projects. “Most managers, 86 per cent who oversee hybrid teams feel in-office and remote employees have equal opportunities,” they write. “Flexibility over where and when they work is a major priority for professionals. Companies should continue to offer employees a level of autonomy over this, to attract and retain top talent and boost productivity and employee satisfaction.”
According to the 2023 hiring and employment trends report from Robert Half, 90 per cent of hiring managers say they still face tough challenges in landing new talent.
