The Ontario Securities Commission has announced activities aimed at improving Canadians' financial knowledge, skills, confidence and behaviours during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Many Canadians are feeling the financial impact of the pandemic," said Tyler Fleming, Director of the Investor Office at the OSC. "While only one piece of the puzzle, improving financial literacy can help people better personally navigate the economic turbulence and recovery."

Among the initiatives the OSC will be leading in November are:

  • COVID-19 information for newcomers – a multilingual website for investors, InvestingIntroduction.ca, which now includes information on COVID-19 and investing for newcomers and new Canadians, in addition to tips for avoiding financial fraud during the pandemic. It is available in 22 languages.

  • A relaunched investor Q&A website – The OSC's investor Q&A website, previously called Re: Investing, has relaunched as InvestingQuestions.ca with a new design.

  • New financial tools and calculators to help Ontarians better plan their finances: GetSmarterAboutMoney.ca: the Cash Flow Calculator, the Investor Readiness Quiz and a new interactiven How Income Tax Works article.

The regulator will also be hosting various education webinars in November.
