La Capitale – SSQ has recruited a chief executive of the Québec civil service, Catherine Desgagnés-Belzil, to lead its IT department. Desgagnés-Belzil held this government position since February.
The news was first reported by the Journal de Québec on June 5. SSQ Insurance spokesperson, Danielle Rioux confirmed to Insurance Portal that Desgagnés-Belzil was hired as head of IT at La Capitale – SSQ.
The product of the merger of SSQ Insurance and La Capitale Insurance and Financial Services, La Capitale – SSQ should begin operations on July 1, now that the National Assembly has approved the merger.
“This is an entirely new organization, so Desgagnés-Belzil is not replacing someone else. She will report directly to the president and CEO,” Rioux says. Jean-François Chalifoux, current President and CEO of SSQ Insurance will hold the same position at the new merged entity.
Before directing technologies at the provincial government, Desgagnés-Belzil notably served as assistant secretary of the digital transformation at the Secrétariat du conseil du Trésor.
