The Desjardins Group Election Committee announced on Dec. 16 that Guy Cormier has been acclaimed head of Desjardins Group for a second four-year term.

The announcement was made following the prescribed nomination period during which no one challenged his re-election. Cormier’s second term will officially begin March 28, 2020, following Desjardin’s Annual General Meeting.

Cormier was first elected as president of Desjardins in 2016. He has been with the organization for over 26 years, starting as a business account manager and then serving as general manager at a number of caisses. In 2009, he was appointed vice president of Cooperative Network Finance, and became senior vice president of the Cooperative Network in 2012.

His first term as president was marked by a massive privacy breach impacting millions. Earlier this month, Desjardins announced a restructuring following a review of the breach. As part of this restructuring, Former chief operating officer and senior executive vice president, Denis Berthiaume, and former executive vice president of information technology, Chadi Habib, left the company.
