Denis Dubois will become President and Chief Executive Officer of Desjardins Group as of September 2, 2025.
Dubois will split his current position as Executive Vice-President, Wealth Management and Insurance, into two roles: one focused on life and health insurance, and the other on wealth management.
Chantal Gagné, currently Vice-President, Life and Health Insurance and Independent Distribution, will become Executive Vice-President, Life and Health Insurance, as of September 2.
Sébastien Vallée, currently Vice-President, Investment Solutions, will take on the role of Executive Vice-President, Wealth Management, also beginning September 2.
Gagné and Vallée will join the management committee.
Valérie Lavoie will remain Executive Vice-President, Property and Casualty Insurance. She is also a member of Desjardins’ management committee.
Focusing on priorities
“Dubois made the decision to create two distinct executive vice-presidencies to allow the teams to focus on the priorities specific to each sector,” said Desjardins Group spokesperson Jean-Benoit Turcotti in an email to Insurance Portal, explaining the incoming CEO’s reasoning.
Turcotti added that this is why Dubois entrusted wealth management to Sébastien Vallée and life and health insurance to Chantal Gagné.
Gagné, who has been with Desjardins for 18 years, began her career in the property and casualty insurance sector, the organization noted in its news release on the leadership restructuring. She has held roles in actuarial, underwriting, and claims. “Over the last five years, she has played a key role in the transformation of Desjardins's life and health insurance sector,” the release states.
Vallée, who joined Desjardins in 2000, has 15 years of experience in management and senior management positions in the wealth management sector, including his current role. “He's a member of the AMF's Investment Products Advisory Committee,” the release notes.
