The Insurance Council of British Columbia announced it has suspended Alvinder Singh Gill while the council conducts an investigation to determine Gill’s suitability to hold a license.
Licensed in British Columbia since July 2001, Gill’s license was suspended after the council received a complaint “involving serious allegations of financial fraud by the licensee that allegedly resulted in significant monetary losses by certain of the licensee’s former clients,” the council writes in its decision and order. The alleged fraudulent actions occurred from 2010 through to 2020. As a result of the allegations, the insurer with which Gill was most recently affiliated has withdrawn his authority to represent the company. The allegations have also been reported to law enforcement officials.
“Council staff are conducting an investigation with regard to the licensee’s suitability to hold a license,” they write. “Based on the nature of the allegations against the licensee, council believes that the licensee represents a risk to the public such that his license should remain suspended while the investigation is underway and until council determines the licensee’s suitability and issues further orders.”
