Ten banks are working together to help the Canadian Red Cross provide emergency relief and support for communities impacted by flooding in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick, announced the Canadian Bankers Association April 30.

Support includes opening branch locations and online networks for donations from Canadians. Banks are also making corporate contributions and some banks are arranging special payment options for people impacted by the floods.

Accepting customer donations

The following banks are accepting customer donations through their branch and online networks from Tuesday, April 30th to Tuesday, May 14th: BMO, Canadian Western Bank, CIBC, HSBC Bank Canada, Laurentian Bank, National Bank, RBC, Scotiabank, Tangerine Bank (donations can be made online directly from client accounts starting May 1 to15) and TD Bank Group.

"Banks in Canada have a long history of rallying together to support the efforts of the Canadian Red Cross to help the people, families and businesses affected by spring floods in Canada. We are proud to support the important work of the dedicated first responders and volunteers who move quickly to provide relief and comfort to communities affected by these devastating floods," Neil Parmenter, President and CEO, Canadian Bankers Association.

“An immensely difficult situation”

"The current flooding in communities across Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick has created an immensely difficult situation for many residents and their families. In times of emergency the Red Cross mobilizes to help vulnerable people. Thanks to the support of the Canadian Bankers Association and participating banks, we are able to ensure there are options for Canadians wanting to make a donation to help those in need," said Conrad Sauvé, President and CEO, Canadian Red Cross.
