Nav Dhillon

Tracy Garrad is stepping down less than two years after taking the helm at Aviva Canada, choosing to return to the United Kingdom, where her family resides. 

The company has named Nav Dhillon as interim chief executive officer. His appointment is subject to regulatory approval. 

Dhillon has served as the company’s chief financial officer since December 2022. During the interim, Dhillon will be replaced in his previous job by Karan Kak, Hazel Tan, head of external affairs told the Insurance Portal

Dhillon assumes his interim role effective immediately. The company has launched a search for the next permanent CEO, considering both internal and external candidates, says Amanda Blanc, CEO of Aviva Group

Other appointments 

This is the third senior leadership change at Aviva Canada in the past five weeks. 

On May 5, the company appointed T. Neil Morrison as chair of the board of directors. A board member since the summer of 2024, Morrison brings nearly 40 years of insurance industry experience, including executive roles with Hub International

In addition, as of June 2, John Lally has taken over as the company’s new chief claims officer. Lally joined Aviva in 2010 and moved into the claims division in 2017.
