The Insurance Council of British Columbia has suspended the licenses of several agents who failed to declare on their 2021 annual filing that their continuing education (CE) requirements were fulfilled and failed to respond to requests for information sent as part of the council’s annual declaration audit in November 2021.
“Having taken into consideration the licensee’s repeated failure to cooperate with council and to confirm that continuing education requirements were fulfilled, (council) believes it to be in the interests of the public for the licensee to be suspended until such time as the licensee has complied with council’s request for information,” the council states in each of the decisions published. “Council considers the length of time required to hold a hearing would be detrimental to the due administration of the (Financial Institutions) Act.”
In each of the decisions, they say council gave an initial deadline of December 2021 to comply, which was extended until April 2022. In addition to the initial demand for information made in November 2021, the council says it also made additional attempts to contact the agents through telecommunication, electronic communication and written communication throughout January 2022.
Those having their licenses suspended include Patricia Ying Ting Mai, a level one general insurance salesperson, licensed in British Columbia since 2020, Divyanshu Verma, a level one agent in the province since 2020, Dong Kai Fang, a level two agent since 2018, Gurulove Sondhi, a level one general insurance salesperson since 2018, and Paramdeep Kaur Bhugra, a level one agent since 2018.
