Montreal-based Desjardins has become one of the latest Canadian financial services companies boycotting Facebook and Instagram and suspending advertising on the social media sites for the month of July.

The step has already been taken by Canadian big banks and other companies and organizations around the world in the Stop Hate for Profit campaign and to stand “in solidarity with those opposing hate speech and advocating for change,” the company said.

Wants to build an inclusive society

“As a financial services cooperative and an employer, we want to support our members, clients, employees and communities in building an inclusive society where everyone can achieve their full potential,” said Desjardins.

Desjardins will also be pausing its planned posts on Facebook and Instagram for the month of July, barring any exceptional situations where it needs to communicate with members and clients.
