The Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) has released key dates for those interested in obtaining the associate of the CIA (ACIA) designation.

ACIA designation holders have “the knowledge to identify, evaluate and analyze risk along with the technical, communications and business skills outlined in the CIA’s education syllabus,” the institute writes. “The new syllabus for the ACIA modules and capstone exam have been designed to bridge education and the work environment. The modules are a core educational requirement toward ACIA designation and the next step in how we’re transforming actuarial education in Canada.”

They add it takes between five and seven years, on average, to become an ACIA, including the completion of a university degree. The institute says it has developed a system of transition rules to ensure that no efforts are duplicated for those professionals, students and graduates with relevant experience. Credits and education from other actuarial organizations may be accepted in lieu of some of the ACIA requirements.

Registration for the first module, beginning in early September, opens mid-July. Deadlines for completing degrees and making applications to apply for course credit are available on the CIA’s website. Module 2 launches in early November, with registration opening in early September. The CIA’s capstone exam takes place January 16, 2024.
