The Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) published its December 2021 net sales and net asset figures for mutual funds and exchange traded funds (ETFs) in Canada. Although mutual fund net sales dropped off sharply relative to November 2021 and December 2020 sales figures, mutual fund net sales in total reached $112.6-billion year-to-date, compared to net sales of just $30.8-billion in 2020.
December 2021 net sales were $0.9-billion during the month, compared to $7.4-billion and $7.2-billion recorded in November 2021 and December 2020. Mutual fund net assets totalled $2.077-trillion at the end of December 2021, up from $2.034-trillion in November and $1.784-trillion in December 2020.
ETF sales were more positive, bringing in $5.6-billion in December 2021, up from $5.1-billion in November and $3.9-billion in December 2020. Year-to-date sales were $58.7-billion in 2021, up from $41.5-billion in 2020. Net assets were $347.4-billion at the end of December 2021, up from $335.9-billion in November 2021 and $257.3-billion in December 2020.
