Statistics Canada has published its 2022 figures on the number of Canadians who have insurance that covers dental care. The report, Dental insurance coverage 2022, also examines the number of Canadians who have been to the dentist within 12 months of the surveys being conducted.
According to the two tables, 21,477,700 people over the age of 12 visited a dental professional within 12 months of the Canadian Community Health Survey being conducted for 2022. They say the sample is representative of the Canadian population over age 12 living in Canada’s 10 provinces.
The number of people who had their dental expenses covered by an insurance plan or government program was 19,989,400. Broken down, close to 9.9-million men had coverage, while more than 10.1-million women said the same. Total figures broken down by insurance type show that 1.4-million had their dental benefits paid by public insurance, 18-million had their benefits paid for by private insurance and more than 11.4-million did not have dental insurance at all.
Figures prior to 2022 were not available in the release.
