L'Unique General Insurance and Unica have announced that Guy Lecours will become their new Chief Operating Officer, replacing Yves Gagnon.
Lecours, currently Vice-president of Promutuel Insurance, will take up his duties on Nov. 21. Gagnon, whose retirement was announced in June, will step down on Nov. 11.
Yves Gagnon has served as COO of these two Beneva subsidiaries since fall 2021. He is retiring after 40 years in the industry.
Lecours’ appointment was announced in a press release on Nov. 2. “I am delighted about the appointment of Guy Lecours. Thanks to his numerous achievements in the insurance field, his strategic vision and his unifying style, Guy Lecours will contribute to the development and innovation of our brokerage activities in Quebec and Ontario,” says Christian Fournier, Executive Vice-President and Lead, Property and Casualty Insurance at Beneva Lecours.
Guy Lecours has more than 25 years of experience, mostly with brokerage insurers. A Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, Lecours has held various senior management positions, mainly in Quebec, but also elsewhere in Canada. Notably, he has chaired the board of the Groupement des assureurs automobiles from March 2014 until March 22.
“I am very proud to join the teams at L'Unique and Unica, whose reputation is well established. I look forward to contributing to the success of both organizations and to actively serving our brokers and their clients,” says Guy Lecours.
Founded in 1978, L'Unique has been a member of the La Capitale group since 2004. This insurer has combined with SSQ Insurance to form Beneva, the largest insurance mutual in Canada. Unica Insurance was founded in 1955 and serves the Ontario market.
