Paul Tyers was the overall winner of the 2nd annual PlanPlus Canada Financial Planning Awards. The award was presented by Shawn Brayman, PlanPlus President, and John Page, Awards Chair, at the opening session of the 2017 CIFPs Conference in Ottawa this week.

Tyers, Managing Director & Portfolio Manager, of Wealth Stewards in Toronto holds the CPA, CA, CFP, and CIM designations. Also winning PlanPlus financial planning awards were Jason Pereira, CFP, CFA, MBA, Woodgate Financial Inc. (IPC), Toronto, who was First Runner-Up and Mark LeClaire, CFP, CIM, Sun Life Financial, Toronto, who was Second Runner-Up.

Determined by five internationally-qualified judges

“In creating these awards it was important to us that they be based solely on the value the planner created for their client, and that the selection of winners be totally objective,” said John Page. “This is the only planning competition that I know of in which the winners are determined by five internationally-qualified judges who are voting blind – not knowing whose work they were adjudicating. The winning planners’ clients can be justifiably proud.”

“As the Canadian winner of the Global Financial Planning Awards, I count it a privilege to be included with the top financial planners around the world”, said Paul Tyers. “I am especially pleased to be part of a professional group of planners who are seeking a fiduciary standard in their ‘client-first recommendations’; often in sharp contrast to many financial services purveyors. ”

Open to all Canadian financial advisors

The PlanPlus Canada National Financial Planning Awards competition is open to all Canadian financial advisors who are members in good standing of a financial planning association or other professional body, and who hold a recognized professional designation. To compete, planners submit plans they have actually delivered to real clients, with the client’s permission. Winners automatically advance to the finals of the PlanPlus Global Financial Planning Awards - Americas region.
