Applied Systems has published its second quarter 2025 results of the Applied Rating Index, showing increased personal auto and personal property premiums in all provinces.

“It is evident that rising auto premiums are not just a short-term fluctuation but a trend across the country,” Steve Whitelaw, senior vice president and general manager of Applied Systems Canada said in a statement. “We also see that homeowner’s rates are under similar upward pressure.”

In the second quarter of 2025, premiums for both personal auto lines and personal property lines increased year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter. In personal auto, Ontario reported the highest rate increase of 18.5 per cent year-over-year, while Alberta, at 10.6 per cent, reported the lowest. In personal property, Quebec consumers experienced the highest rate change at 10.1 per cent while British Columbia’s personal property premiums increased just one per cent.

Overall, personal auto premiums increased 14.9 per cent when compared to the same quarter last year, or 3.3 per cent when the second quarter of 2025 is compared to the first. Personal property rate change increased 6.9 per cent, year-over-year, or 3.4 per cent quarter-over-quarter, comparing the second quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of the year.
