Both personal auto and personal property premium rates are continuing their upward year-over-year trend across all provinces, according to the latest Applied SystemsApplied Rating Index reading.

The second quarter results show average premiums for both lines of business increasing year-over-year. Quarter-over-quarter premiums decreased slightly in Ontario and Quebec, while personal property similarly increased in all provinces except Ontario and Quebec.

Year-over-year, however, Alberta saw the highest increase in both lines, at 22.6 per cent for personal auto and 11.9 per cent for personal property. Quebec reported the lowest increases of just 0.9 per cent and 0.7 per cent for auto and property, respectively.

Overall, the national personal auto premium rate change was up 21.8 per cent when compared to the same quarter in 2025. Personal property premium rate change increased 5.8 per cent.

“Premium rates for personal auto and personal property continued to climb across Canada in the second quarter,” stated Steve Whitelaw, senior vice president and general manager of Applied Systems Canada.
