Tom Miller, President of Pro-Seminars and the Canadian Initiative for Elder planning Studies, passed away at the age of 71 on Sept. 23 after a brief illness.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 42 years, Bev, 7 children, 10 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandchild.

After a successful career as a life insurance agent with the former Mutual Life and Clarica in Hamilton, he went on to create Pro-seminars in 1998 with his friend Alex Nicholson.

His goal was to provide continuing education for insurance and financial advisors conveniently at a fair price.

In 2003, Tom Miller created and established the Canadian Initiative for Elder Planning Studies (CIEPS) to help professionals working with the aging population. The Elder Planning Counselor (EPC) was the first such designation program in Canada.

“Today, thousands of financial, medical, legal, and other professionals have earned their EPC,” says his obituary.

“Tom was a man of his word and it was that integrity and code of honour that helped him create first Pro-Seminars and then the EPC program to help educate thousands of Canadian financial advisors. His industry influence will be greatly missed,” says his friend, Jim Ruta.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks that charitable donations be made in Tom’s memory to the Lincoln County Humane Society or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
