Howard Wetston, the chairman of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), will finish his term on November 14.

Wetston was appointed to the position in 2010. In a news release announcing his departure, the OSC noted that he had played a significant role in Canadian and international securities regulatory bodies, and had served as member of the Canadian Securities Administrators and as vice chairman of the International Organization of Securities Commissions.

In a letter to OSC staff and commissioners, Wetston said he was proud of what the regulator had accomplished during his term.

"It has been an honour to serve our investors and our capital markets, and to lead an organization that is highly regarded and supported by such an exemplary group of professionals," he wrote. "We have intensified our efforts to protect our marketplace, engage with investors and advance our important policy work. I move on with full confidence that the OSC will continue to advance regulation in this province."

Current OSC vice-chairwoman Monica Kowal will become the acting chairwoman of the OSC after Wetston's departure.
