Mario Grégoire, chairman of Quebec’s Conseil des professionnels en services financiers (CDPSF), has sent a letter to Marie Elaine Farley, CEO of the Chambre de la sécurité financière (CSF), asking her to make money laundering education compulsory for financial advisors in the province. "For the CDPSF, it is clear that this kind of initiative will have immediate results, both as a means of protecting the profession and as a way of maintaining public confidence," says Grégoire.
FlashFinance.ca, a sister publication of The Insurance and Investment Journal, obtained a copy of CDPSF's letter. The professional association for advisors goes even further in the document and states that it "supports without reservation" the nomination of Idéal Conseil to act as a supplier and provide this training to the 32,000 advisors who are members of the CSF.
Grégoire extols the virtues of this educational organisation and reveals, among other things, that Idéal Conseil was with him when he met with Quebec regulator, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), on Sept. 29 to discuss the fight against money laundering. He concludes the letter by stating that AMF "looks favourably" on the prospect of the CSF and the CDPSF working together on this issue.
