The government of Ontario has nominated Maureen Jensen to be the new chairwoman and CEO of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC).

Last week, Ontario nominated Jenson to lead the OSC. The appointment is subject to review by the province’s Standing Committee on Government Agencies.

Jensen has served as the OSC’s executive director and chief administrative officer since 2011. Prior to this she worked for the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC), where she was senior vice-president of surveillance and compliance, at both Market Regulation Services and the Toronto Stock Exchange.

In a statement released on Jan. 26, the regulator said that Jensen had been a leader in the its efforts to implement its  “comply or explain” disclosure requirements that promote increased representation of women on boards of directors and in executive officer positions with non-venture issuers, such as TSX-listed publicly traded companies.

"Ms. Jensen’s nomination as the OSC's new Chair and Chief Executive Officer reflects her accomplished career in the financial services industry and expertise in capital markets regulation. She is well-respected by her colleagues and peers in the investment industry across the country," reads the press release. "Ms. Jensen’s leadership will ensure that the OSC will continue to operate efficiently and smoothly through a crucial period of modernizing Canada's capital markets regulatory system."
