Manulife is offering free Garmin vívofit 3 devices to clients when they register for its new Vitality program.

The wearable technology firm Garmin International is joining Manulife's new Canadian Vitality program as a rewards provider. When members register for Vitality as part of select new life insurance policies, they will receive a free vívofit 3. The device has a one-year battery life and is able to collect data from a broad range of activities, such as walking, running, biking, swimming and elliptical training.

As we reported earlier this month, Manulife has started to roll out its Vitality program in Canada. The rewards system allows members to earn points when they lead healthy lives; this may involve completing health education courses, exercising, going for an annual health screening, or getting a flu shot. The number of points collected in a year determines the member’s program status level: the higher the level, the greater the rewards and benefits they receive.

Tracks progress

"The Garmin wearable technology fits in nicely with the Manulife Vitality program in Canada," comments Manulife Canada's president and CEO Marianne Harrison. "The wearable device helps members keep track of their progress and motivate them to achieve their health and wellness goals. Through a seamless connection with Manulife Vitality a member can automatically be recognized for meeting daily fitness goals, which is exactly what this program is all about."
