The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is reminding people who pay their income tax by installments that their next payment is due on September 15.

In a message posted to the its web site last week, the CRA pointed out that taxpayers can go online to both see the amount they owe and make their payments. The CRA web site also allows people to sign up to receive a reminder via email one month before their taxes are due.

Those who have registered for the CRA's My Account web site may see their instalment amount online by logging in and selecting “View mail,” from the menu, and then clicking on “Instalment". To make a payment, the CRA says taxpayers may use online banking, preauthorized debit, or credit cards through a third-party service provider. Depending on the taxpayer's financial institution, he or she may be able to use the CRA's My Payment service and pay online with Visa debit or by Interac.

The CRA emphasizes that, when paying online, it is important to be careful when entering your social insurance number as your account number so that the payments are applied to the correct account.

For those who would like more information on making tax payments online, the CRA have posted a video to their web site.
