Ian Russell, the president and CEO of the Investment Industry Association of Canada (IIAC), has been reappointed to serve another one-year term as chairman of the International Council of Securities Associations (ICSA).

The decision to extend Russell's term was made on May 24 at ICSA's annual general meeting in Stockholm. The announcement from ICSA notes that the organisation was formally incorporated in 2015 under Russell’s leadership, and says it will continue to build relationships with regulators and respond to initiatives from multi-national bodies. In particular, the ICSA has recently made submissions to the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) on subjects such as cross border trading, market liquidity, and cybersecurity.

Raising awareness

“I view this as a strong opportunity to raise awareness of not only ICSA’s role in promoting efficient and well-functioning securities markets and the efficient flow of cross-border capital, but to elevate the profile of the Canadian securities industry and our capital markets as well,” commented Russell.
