Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life have donated $518,000 to the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) to help fund the organization's financial literacy program. The Great-West Lifeco insurers say that this initial gift is a part of a long-term relationship with Canada's national accounting body.

Some of the funds will be used to expand CPA Canada’s Community Connect undertaking, where more than 9,000 volunteer accountants provide free financial information sessions across the country. The money will also be used to create financial education programs for new Canadians, small business owners, seniors, and students, as well as to raise the general level of awareness about the importance of financial literacy.

"People who lack money management skills are at a distinct disadvantage and may make financial decisions that are not in their long-term interest," comments Cairine Wilson, vice-president of corporate citizenship at CPA Canada. "Our two organizations share a common goal of wanting to assist Canadians in helping themselves."
