The Financial Planning Standards Council has announced that John De Goey, CFP, has been awarded the Donald J. Johnston Lifetime Achievement Award in Financial Planning.

This award is named for the late Donald J. Johnston, who led FPSC through its first successful first decade of development and operation. It is the highest honour bestowed by FPSC, “recognizing a lifetime advancement of CFP certification and significant positive impact on the financial planning profession,” said the FPSC in a Nov. 24 announcement.

De Goey is a Portfolio Manager at Industrial Alliance Securities (IAS) in Toronto. He has worked for two decades to build awareness of the importance of the CFP mark among consumers, government representatives and the financial services community alike, says the FPSC. He is also the author of four editions of the book The Professional Financial Advisor.

Professional recognition for financial planning

"Receiving the Donald J. Johnston Lifetime Achievement Award in Financial Planning is a huge honour and source of pride for me,” says De Goey. “There are many people working to gain professional recognition for financial planning and I'm proud to count myself among them."

As part of this recognition, the FPSC makes a $10,000 donation in the award winner’s name to a charitable organization(s) of their choice. De Goey has selected The Daily Bread Food Bank and Community Living Essex County as recipients of the donation.
