FP Canada announced that it is currently accepting nominations for two honours, the FP Canada Fellow distinction and the Donald J. Johnston Lifetime Achievement Award. Both recognize major contributions to FP Canada, its mandate and to the financial planning profession in Canada.

The national certification and oversight body says the criteria for awarding the distinctions is rigorous. As such, the distinction may not be awarded every year.

Nominees for the FP Canada Fellow award must be regular volunteers who’ve demonstrated a commitment to advancing FP Canada’s mandate – to advance the financial planning profession in Canada. They must also have a history of helping to develop standards, or inspire others to develop and adopt them, to enhance the public interest and the reputation of the certifications issued by FP Canada. Fellows do not necessarily need to be Qualified Association Financial Planner (QAFP) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) professionals. Their volunteer work does not include activities directly related to their jobs, but their work setting standards or inspiring others to adhere to them might be a function of their employment.

The Donald J. Johnson award, meanwhile, is given to fellows who’ve also made a profound contribution to FP Canada and the financial planning profession. “Donald J. Johnson led FP Canada through its successful first decade of development and operation as the premiere standard-setting organization for the financial planning profession in Canada,” they write adding that the award “recognizes a recipient’s lifetime contribution and positive impact on FP Canada’s certifications and on the financial planning profession as a whole.”

The deadline for nominations is May 5, 2023.
