Peter Brady has been appointed Executive Director of the British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC), while Douglas Muir will step up to become the new Director of Enforcement. Both appointments are effective September 7, 2016.

BCSC chairwoman and CEO Brenda Leong announced the two appointments on August 23. In 2012 Brady became the regulator's Director of Corporate Finance, and since February 2016 he has served as its Director of Enforcement. He has a B.A. (Honours) from Queen’s University and a law degree from the University of Victoria.

"Peter brings a wealth of capital markets and regulatory experience to his new role," said Leong.  "He will provide continued strong leadership to the Commission and I look forward to working in partnership with him, building on our cohesive approach to protecting investors - through robust compliance programs, innovative investor education, strong enforcement and cost effective regulation."

Muir joined the BCSC in 2004 and spent seven years in the litigation group of its enforcement division, and then went on to become Associate General Counsel in the Office of the Chair where he provided expert legal advice on a variety of matters including administrative law procedures and freedom of information. He has a B.A. from Western University and a law degree from the University of British Columbia.

"Doug's deep understanding of securities and administrative law, and broad regulatory experience make him uniquely qualified to bring strategic leadership to our critical Enforcement efforts," added Leong.
