Of the 421 candidates who sat the most recent Certified Financial Planner (CFP) examination, 70% received a passing grade.
The Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) has released the results from the June 3 sitting of the Level 1 Examination in Financial Planning and the CFP examination. A total of 914 candidates wrote the two exams, which were held in 45 locations across Canada.
The FPSC Level 1 examination is the first step on the path to CFP certification; before writing the four-hour multiple-choice exam candidates must have successfully completed an approved core curriculum program. This exam was written by 493 candidates, with an overall pass rate of 73%. "Of the candidates who wrote the exam, 423 were first-time writers (77% pass rate), while 70 were re-attempting the exam (51% pass rate)," says the FPSC.
Written by 421 people
As for the six-hour CFP exam, which is the final test that leads to the CFP designation, it was written by 421 people with an overall pass rate of 70%. The FPSC says that 322 of the candidates were first-time writers (74% pass rate), while the remaining 99 were re-attempting the exam (58% pass rate).
“Success on these challenging exams demonstrates candidates’ readiness to proceed along the rigorous path to obtaining CFP certification,” says FPSC president and CEO Cary List. “Ultimately these individuals will play an important and trusted role in helping Canadians achieve financial well-being.”
These examinations take place twice per year, and the FPSC says the next session will be held on Friday, November 25. Candidates can register at fpsc.ca.
