The commercial insurance market in Canada is a new target for the subsidiary of a major reinsurer.

Hannover Re, through its subsidiary HDI Global Specialty SE, has announced that it plans to deploy new capabilities in the Canadian commercial insurance market. The specialized insurance subsidiary will focus on the professional lines, aviation and expansion into other new specialist commercial lines markets.

To help make this shift happen, HDI Global Specialty SE has created a new position, strategic relationship manager. The specialty insurer filled this position with a recruit hailing from a competitor.

Kelly Callachan has joined HDI Global Specialty SE from Northbridge Insurance. There, she was director of sales and business development. Previously, she worked at brokerage firms, including as an underwriting manager at Aon Reed Stenhouse and an account manager at Waddell Group. 

Callachan will report directly to Derek Spafford, General Manager, HDI Global Specialty SE – Canada. “I am delighted to welcome Kelly to the business at this important time in our development as we expand our current capabilities and extend into new segments over the next year. The creation of this new role and Kelly’s appointment underline our commitment to both enhancing and expanding our market presence and offering across Canada,” Spafford says.
