Sprott Asset Management has announced the addition of three new portfolio managers.

On November 7, Sprott revealed that it had hired James Bowen and Jonathan Wiesblatt, who had previously been with the Toronto investment firm JC Clark Ltd. where they managed the long/short Adaly hedge fund.

"James and Jonathan are proven portfolio managers who will deepen our investment team and expand our investment capabilities," said Sprott CEO John Wilson. "Together, they have established an impressive track record as stock pickers focused on North American equities. We look forward to their contributions to the management of both new and existing products, including the Sprott Canadian Equity Fund."

Three days later, on November 10, Sprott announced that it had also hired Whitney George as senior portfolio manager. For the last 23 years Mr. George has been with Royce & Associates in New York, where he helped to establish the company's reputation as a small-cap manager. Subject to investor and regulatory approval, Mr. George will bring the management contracts of two US funds with him. The funds have combined assets under management of approximately $285 million.

Sprott says that Mr. George will remain in New York and will play a key role in expanding the firm's business in the United States.
