Sun Life Financial announced Sept. 26 that it has launched Workplace by Facebook, a communications platform aimed at increasing collaboration and productivity among employees.

The platform is currently being used by Sun Life employees in Canada, the U.S., and Asia. The company expects it to be rolled-out to all employees across its global operations by July 2018.

Increasing collaboration across time zones

In an announcement, Sun Life said it will leverage Workplace to: increase collaboration across time zones; enhance video capability and the ability to host team meetings around the world; grow mobile solutions for employees; attract and retain top talent, and reduce the amount of email.

This company says adopting this technology is the “latest move” as Sun Life transforms its business via its digital strategy.

Digital transformation journey

"We are proud to be among the first financial services companies to offer Workplace to our employees," said Mark Saunders, Executive Vice-President & Chief Information Officer, Sun Life Financial. "As we continue on our digital transformation journey, Workplace will help us connect more easily and share information, best practices and ideas regardless of where people are located or what language they speak."

So far, about 6000 Sun Life employees are using Workplace, with more being added each day. Workplace provides employees with “a collaborative space to share news and updates on company strategy, highlight articles of interest related to the business including its commitment to community and sustainable practices, reward and recognize employees, and celebrate key project milestones,” stated Sun Life.
