Sun Life Financial is offering people living with diabetes a chance to meet pop icon Nick Jonas.

The pop star Nick Jonas was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 13. In February 2015, he co-founded Beyond Type 1, a charity that creates and funds programs for those living with the condition.

On July 22, Sun Life Financial announced that it will be working with Beyond Type 1 to offer select members of the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) and JDRF Quebec an opportunity to meet the singer and songwriter and attend one of his concerts in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, or Winnipeg free of charge.

Global epidemic

"We want to inspire these people to continue to manage their disease effectively and, like Nick, lead full and successful lives," comments Paul Joliat, assistant vice-president, of philanthropy and sponsorships at Sun Life Financial. "Diabetes is a global epidemic and rates continue to rise. That's why, at Sun Life, we're committed to the prevention of diabetes and its related complications and want to remind Canadians that knowing their risk level is simple yet vital."

The insurer has also created a web site at www.sunlifeagainstdiabetes.com to encourage Canadians to get screened for their risk of developing type 2 diabetes and take steps to prevent or manage its onset.
