For the fourth year in a row, Sun Life Financial is teaming up with the Canadian Football League (CFL) to inform Canadians about the risk of type 2 diabetes.

The insurer announced yesterday that this year's campaign will use tweets, photos, and videos to raise awareness about diabetes and its related complications. Through healthy eating and exercise tips, CFL players from each of the nine teams will invite fans to learn about the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and what they can do to prevent or delay its onset. There is also an online risk test available at www.sunlifeagainstdiabetes.ca.

Throughout October and November, the insurer is working alongside the Canadian Diabetes Association to encourage Canadians to get screened for the disease. Since 2012, Sun Life has committed more than $17 million in support of diabetes awareness, prevention, care, and research initiatives.

"We are excited to join forces with the CFL to encourage football fans and Canadians to take charge of their health and understand their type 2 diabetes risk," says Paul Joliat, Assistant Vice-President of Philanthropy and Sponsorships at Sun Life Financial. "Currently, one in three Canadians is affected by diabetes or prediabetes. The good news is that 90% of those impacted by the disease have type 2 diabetes which can be delayed and/or prevented with healthy eating, exercise, and of course, identifying your risk."
