Russell Investments Canada today announced that it has recently expanded the firm's outcome-oriented multi-asset solutions to include the Multi-Asset Income Strategy (MAIS) fund.

In a May 23 announcement, the company said the MAIS fund is a multi-asset offering for investors looking to provide long-term capital growth while minimizing drawdowns. MAIS was formerly named LifePoints Balanced Income.

Exposure to traditional and non-traditional asset classes

“MAIS targets a specific long-term objective, providing diversified exposure to both traditional and non-traditional asset classes, including equities, fixed income, real assets and absolute return portfolio segments. The investment portfolio's asset allocation, strategies and exposures are tactically managed to control risk and respond nimbly to market opportunities,” says the company.

Russell Investments also announced changes to the strategic asset allocation for select Canadian multi-asset portfolios “in response to high equity valuations, the potential for greater market risk, uncertain U.S. government policies and lower expected long-term returns.”

Non-domestic markets and defensive equities

"Overall, the changes increase exposure to non-domestic markets, defensive equities, and non-traditional asset classes such as commodities," said Greg Nott, Chief Investment Officer and Senior Portfolio Manager for Canada. "We also have expanded the sources of potential income through a broader range of fixed-income assets such as real return bonds, convertible bonds and emerging markets bonds."
