Joanne De Laurentiis is retiring, and the Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) has appointed Paul Bourque to be the organisation's new president and chief executive officer.

On May 16, IFIC board chairman John Adams announced that Bourque will step into the role gradually, joining the organisation on June 27 and assuming full responsibilities on July 18.

Regulatory background

Most recently, Bourque was executive director of the British Columbia Securities Commission. Prior to this, he was an associate partner at Deloitte, senior vice president at the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada, deputy minister of justice in Alberta, and director of market operations at the Ontario Securities Commission. He obtained his law degree from Osgoode Hall at York University and is a member of the bars of Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.

“Paul has an exceptional track record in the financial services industry, particularly in regulatory matters,” said Adams. “His experience and knowledge will be great assets in leading our industry’s ongoing efforts to work collaboratively with our regulators and policy makers.”
